Youth Mixed Martial Arts 8-13
In our 8-13 year old program we focus on these keys; Confidence, Self Defense, Discipline, Teamwork, Respect and Hard Work. Each class is 45 minutes and consists of a warm-up, a mat chat, technical instruction, drills that build fundamental basic martial arts skills and a mix of fun games that get the heart rate up!
With our youth program we begin to work on really mastering all of our fundamental techniques. As kids/teens become more advanced we start to add aspects of live drilling and more partner exercises. With this age group we put an importance on confidence and knowing how to defend yourself in any situation.
Our drills and techniques that are taught are broken down into three categories; striking techniques, grappling techniques, and self defense techniques. Our youth system was built using techniques from boxing, wrestling, sambo, and Brazilian jiu jitsu and was modified to be used with kids!
We follow a shirt ranking system for our 8-13 program. It gives kids something to work towards and shows their improvement, if they work hard and stay focused in class! Instead of using a belt system like most classic martial arts, we use shirts to signify rank. There are 4 ranks, WHITE–YELLOW–ORANGE–GREEN
Kids have a list of techniques they have to learn and a list of requirements before they are eligible for the next rank. Some of these requirements are:
- Parent has to sign off. If your child is not listening at home or doing their homework, you can hold off on the promotion until you feel that they are ready.
- Attend a certain number of classes
- Stay focused and listening to their instructor during class time
- Work well with partners during drills and techniques
Once all the requirements are met, they are ready to test for their next rank. We run a test/promotion ceremony every few months and we invite all parents to watch!
